SSO Classics in the Park - 10 August
If your inner picnic pixie wasn't satisfied with Ballet Under the Stars, there's always the open air classics concert at the Botanics this coming weekend. 6pm, 10 August at the Shaw Foundation Stage.
Avid arts-goer, voracious reader and mum to young bookworm who loves going to the theatre.

Turns out there's more to Esplanade's Octoburst than just a drawing competition - it's going to be a full-fledged lil fest with theatre, music, ballet and Bharatanatyam which is great news for kids.
Ticketed events include The Japanese Garden, another edition of the Tick, Tock and Tack series and The Nutcracker by the SDT. Free events include a concert by the young folks at NAFA's Chinese instruments programme, Mouse and Cookie by The Players Theatre and Shakuntala by Bhaskar's Arts Academy.
While the International Symposium of Electronic Arts might seem like a mouthful for young kids, some of their exhibitions promises to be fun for young 'uns. My pick would be Experimenta Play ++ at Sculpture Square; any place that encourages touching - normally forbidden at most art exhibitions - is a must-visit.
The performances by master storytellers from all around the world at the Singapore International Storytelling Festival are mostly sold-out but there's an extra show added on on 31 Aug at 3pm. For kids 7-12 years, at the Arts House.
MAAD and its popular OIC Portrait Day are back this weekend.
Aimed at budding Picassos or Yue Minjuns aged 5-12 years, the competition is part of the Esplanade's Octoburst season. Bring your own paints and crayons and the Esplanade provides paper, which is only fair considering they have a paper sponsor.
This one is totally for fun.
Bollybeatz is starting dance classes from 22 July onwards for kids 6-8 years to channel their inner Bollywood stars.
Bollybeatz also runs BabyBeatz for 4-5 year olds.
More puppetry coming your way.
Act3 is back with Theatre for Teens using puppetry and improv to jolt precocious preteens and teens out of their comfort zones and have some fun while they're at it.
There's even an improv storytelling session aimed at younger kids that runs 30 Aug - 7 Sep.
Just wanted to let folks know that the food court at the zoo is undergoing renovations for a few months so the only option for food apart from bringing your own - and the odd snack stands inside - are the outlets right upfront near the ticketing area or worn ole KFC inside near the children's playground.
The sound of the pressurehammers at the renovation site can't be great for the animals either. For the first time in over a year of zoo-going, I heard an aggressive exchange - and by that I mean loud screaming - between two orangutans near the entrance.
I have to say though that we passed the Children's World that's coming up at the zoo and caught sight of a gorgeous carousel that was in the process of being unpacked. Very exciting.
SRT has selected the 12 best plays from a competition they ran for primary 6 & 7 students and staged them with, one hopes, their usual high production values.
Here's a chance for your kids to see what their peers are concerning themselves with. Plus, it's a fun day out at the theatre.
For 7 year-olds and above.
