Experimenta Play ++ - till 2 Aug

While the International Symposium of Electronic Arts might seem like a mouthful for young kids, some of their exhibitions promises to be fun for young 'uns. My pick would be Experimenta Play ++ at Sculpture Square; any place that encourages touching - normally forbidden at most art exhibitions - is a must-visit.

Octoburst at the Esplanade - Drawing competition, 1 Oct

Aimed at budding Picassos or Yue Minjuns aged 5-12 years, the competition is part of the Esplanade's Octoburst season. Bring your own paints and crayons and the Esplanade provides paper, which is only fair considering they have a paper sponsor.

Matisse at STPI: till 16 Aug

arabesque_reduce.jpgIsadora's Workshop brought to our attention the blockbuster exhibition of Matisse prints at the Singapore Tyler Print Institute. We're going to have to try and catch that...just love the sheer space the STPI affords its art. Then LO can go for a little run along the Singapore river and Pacita Abad's painted Alkaff Bridge.

Singapore Art Street - the heartlands edition: 21, 22, 28, 29 June

artsstreet_tmlogo.gifIf you missed the Art street this weekend at Clarke Quay, it's making it's way to you. Well, if you live around Hougang, that is.

Still, loads of stuff to do with family and kids - gawking at the art wall, street performances, graffiti art or getting your hands messy doing street painting or hands-on painting.

Get those kids some art at the Biennale

sgbiennale.jpgThe Singapore Biennale has a raft of things lined up for kids in September including workshops, family tours and a kid's day out.

Why am I talking about this event, light years away in parenting time, now?

There's an art competition and a community art project that the public can participate in for which registration closes 18 July, that's why.

Sculpture Carnival exhibition: 31 May - 18 Jun

If you and your kids aren't out at the myriad workshops at the annual Sculpture Carnival going on this weekend, you could still go to the resulting exhibition over the next couple of weeks. The theme this year: "Mission: Mother Earth."

Events at ACM Peranakan Museum: 5 - 8 Jun

For those of you who missed the grand opening, there still a children's workshop session available."Sarong Stories is a three-day workshop that explores Peranakan themes and collections in the galleries using folktales and nursery rhymes. The final day of the workshop culminates in a mini-presentation for family and friends of the participants." Is not cheap at $180 per child. Suitable for children aged 7 - 9 years. More details on the website.

If you'd rather keep it light and easy, just go to the next Straits Family Sundays at the Peranakan Museum on 8 June, 1 - 4pm. It's held the second Sunday of every month and includes a three-hour workshop with craft, drama, story-telling and a tour component. Different themes of the culture are explored each month. Best of all, it's complimentary with the purchase of admission ticket.
